The Secret Place

But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing (Matt.6.3).

The secret place holds a lesson for the believers when it comes to certain areas of our lives. Christ said when we do certain things, they should be done in the secret. That will make the acts acceptable to God and bring the reward fast enough. These areas include giving, prayers and fasting. Jesus said when we do these things, we should ensure we do them in the secret. This means it has nothing to do with our ego but acts of worship that requires no human validation.

The need for validation from folks has led many to doing things for the sake of the applause only. Jesus said, such people have their rewards already. Also, the use of “when” means they are not negotiable. We just have to do them if we truly wants to worship God. We need to give continually. Fasting regularly is encouraged and we need to pray without ceasing. These acts of worship don’t make us acceptable but they are parts of our covenant relationships.

…knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free (Eph.6.8).

Any good, act of service or worship we carry out, should be unto the Lord and not to people. We will receive the reward from God and not people. Sometimes, people get discouraged when they are not appreciated for doing good. You don’t really need to be appreciated by others. God is the ultimate and he will appreciate you openly. Keep doing good, he has record of your givings, prayers and fastings and he will show up at the right time to answer you. He will also reward you abundantly. He is ever faithful. Amen.
