Faithful God

But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one (2Thess.3.3).

The faithfulness of God is one of His defining nature. He is true to His word when He speaks. He is loving unconditionally. He is who He is without reservations. God is faithful, irrespective of the prevailing circumstances. Ironically, there is no other standard he can be judged by, except Himself as expressed in His word.

The experiences we have rather than confirms this often questions His faithfulness. However, we begin to judge by what others have experienced. He promised Abraham to bless him and made good the words. Jesus asked why he was forsaken on the Cross but on the third day, God raised him from the dead. With many more witnesses as written in the Bible, we can judge Him faithful.

He is faithful to establish you in all good works. He is faithful to keep you from evil and to preserve you.

Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us (Heb.6.17-18).

The two reasons for which it is impossible for God to lie are one, His nature. In His nature, there is no iota of deception in it. Even if He wants to lie, He cannot because it is not in His DNA to do so. The second reason is the evidence of His word that recorded the history of His faithfulness over time, and evidenced by history. Every word He spoke as promise in ages past were fulfilled. The essence of these evidences is for us to rest in Him that He will not fail us. God can be trusted. Amen.
