We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.
A major enemy to confront is the silent voice that keeps asking if you are sure the instruction or the promise you received is really from God. Doubt is questioning what you believe to be true. Nobody is immune to doubt. It happens to the greatest as well as the least of the saints. It is the voice that keeps probing to be sure if God’s word can be believed as it comes. Doubt can lead to unbelief if not properly dealt with. It also has the capacity to stop you from receiving from God, since a double minded person cannot receive anything from Above.
Overcoming doubt begins with the way and manner you handle the word of God. Do you just see it as an ordinary word or inspired word, with the innate power of fulfilment? Responding to God’s word with reference is the first step to overcoming doubt. Let the Word sink deep into you. Read it consistently to remind yourself. And don’t place more emphasis on your experience than the Word. A lot of people elevate their experiences above what God says and that is a major factor that empowers doubt.
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”(John.20.29)
There is no problem with seeking for evidence before you believe but you are blessed when you can take God by His word. Walking with God is by faith and if you must walk with Him, you have to exercise faith. Learning to take God at His word is about faith, trusting that all His says will be as He has spoken. Blessed be His name.
