Closed Book

Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him (Luke.4.20).

Every book has a chapter and pages which must be closed when you are done reading them, so is your life. The book was closed when Jesus was done reading from it. Every life must end when the assignments are over. The contents of books are best enjoyed when opened and so must the substance of life be savoured while it has value. Each phase of life is a chapter and each day is a page. While some narratives are sweet, others may be moving but they all make up the story of your life. Some day, the book shall be closed.

Our lives are open books that others read. Some people may never get to read the Bible in their lifetime. A story was told of an Evangelist who went to preach in a community. After speaking glowingly about Jesus, somebody in the community volunteered to show him the tomb of the man he preached about. He thought the man was crazy, well the man took him to the grave of a late missionary. The man lived so well that he was thought to be Jesus. The community enjoyed reading his life.

You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men (2Cor.3.2).

As Epistles, what are people reading from your life? This is very important to ask so as avoid sending the wrong messages. While we are not to live to please people, we cannot be ignorant of others reading the pages of our lives. We are living epistles written for others to read. What are people reading?
