The Power of Determination
1 Cor. 16:13. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
To stand means to resolve not to cave in. Standing is not a position of ease, rather it is a battle ready position of alertness. It is to be watchful and be on guard. Like soldiers, you will hardly see them sitting down while on duty. The believer is a soldier of the Lord that must be prepared always.
Standing also requires courage. It takes courage to stand and remain standing. Apparently, there is no battle in life that is fought in a sitting position. To be courageous means to be in good spirit, never willing to give up. Courage can produce strength, hence the admonition to remain strong. No time to be weak.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand (Eph. 6:13).
To stand requires a lot of determination, which is the focus of today’s meditation. Standing on what you believe, standing for the truth, standing for what is right and standing to oppose the forces of evil must all be done in this season. And having done all, stand still. Even in the fulfilling of destiny, there is no place for sitting. That would amount to ease and woe to him that is at ease in Zion.
Like the hymn writer wrote,
Standing on the promises, I cannot fall
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all
Standing on the promises of God.
